How to spice up a basic outfit

I am the queen of basic outfits and love to buy pieces that I can pair with anything, but sometimes my style becomes a bit too predictable and repetitive and I want to switch things up a bit. Rather than spending loads of money on new clothes, I have some other ideas to liven up a basic fit.

I got this shirt dress with a lace detail from Missguided and wanted to find a way to make it more interesting and this is what I came up with.

Whether it be some cute earrings, layered necklaces or edgy rings, jewellery is the perfect way to add some shine to an outfit. I have only recently started wearing jewellery regularly and honestly it makes me feel so much better about the outfit I’m wearing, even on slouchy uni days. You can be as bold or as simple as you would like, depending on what your fit demands. Here I am wearing some layered necklaces from H&M and some hoops from Primark.

Your shoes can really determine the whole mood of your outfit. If you want to dress up or dress down an outfit, shoes are the way to go. Boots are amazing because they dress up an outfit without the pain of heels; they are a nice middle ground between heels and flats. These boots are from Nasty Gal and are my favourite pairs of shoes right now.

Statement piece

This can be one of the items I have mentioned above or another piece of clothing. Throwing something with a bold colour or interesting pattern is a great way to add more to a simple fit. I saw this jacket in New Look and fell in love but was also quite intimidated. I tend to sway toward buying simple basics that can easily be paired with anything but stepping out of my comfort zone for this jacket was honestly a great decision.

Let me know what you think of this outfit and how you would have styled this dress.
